Person-Centred Therapy
Helping you find a better way
Person-Centered therapy
Person-Centered therapy are helpful for people struggling with anxiety, anger, depression, trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder to name a few.
This approach, developed by Carl Rogers, believes that every individual has the capacity for self-awareness and the ability to make positive changes in their lives. The therapist believes that there are hidden potential in every person, and every person has a natural desire to live out their full potential. However, sometimes it is criticism, scorn and judgement from others that cause us to withdraw and keeps us from using that full potential.
Some of the key features and principles includes:
Acceptance and support
This means that the therapist accepts and support the client without judgement or conditions. A safe and non-judgemental environment is created for you to explore aspects of your life, work through hurts and traumas, and make the necessary changes towards your own personal development.
Understanding from your point of view
Seeing things from different perceptions creates wonderful insight and is an amazing source of wisdom. Feeling heard by someone who really tries to understand what you are going through already changes the effect of the problem on your feelings and inner wellbeing.
Client-centred focus
You are the expert of your own life, and my role as therapist is to help you with self-exploration and self-discovery. We help you explore thoughts and feelings so you may gain new insight into your own feelings, values, and behaviours.
Focus on the here and now
We might explore past experiences that influenced your life in a significant way. The primary focus is also to focus on what you currently think, feel, and experience in your life. This facilitates self-awareness and mindfulness which is important or personal development. We want to facilitate personal growth, self-actualization, and allow you to become the best version of yourself.
Person-centred therapy has been widely used and adapted, and its principles have influenced various therapeutic approaches. It is particularly effective for those of you who seek personal exploration, self-understanding, and support in making positive changes in your life.
